In “Exploring Topics and Creating a Research Proposal”, chapter 11 of our textbook, Bedford Book of Genres, Amy Braziller goes into detail in explaining the step by step process in creating a research proposal. It talks about how to decide on a specific topic to write about through a series of questions to ask yourself starting with “what are you passionate about”. These questions will be very helpful in the future when it comes time to choose a topic to research. She talks about how to use the rhetorical triangle (ethos, logos and pathos) as we go along with our research so our research appeals to everyone. Braziller then goes into detail on what to do after you find something you’re interested in, again giving a series of questions to ask yourself and statements to guide you along the process. She then uses a student (Jasmine Huerta) as an example of what to do as she herself begins a research proposal on diabetes. Her proposal on diabetes is helpful because it gives a guide on how to answer all the questions we should be asking ourselves as we come up with a proposal. This chapter will be very useful as I begin doing more research assignments.
