In the podcast “The Habitat” the narrator talks about an experiment that 6 individuals plan on taking part in to simulate what it will be like on Mars. Not the actual Mars aspect of Mars, but the human aspect. The part where they have to stay together in a small shelter for years on end. This experiment is set up where the 6 participants are put in a small shelter similar to the one they would be in if they were in Mars, from there, they have to survive together for a year, no sunlight, no other people, nothing except what is in the shelter. The narrator flies out to Hawaii to conduct interviews on each of these “fake astronauts” doing the experiment. They are all lively and for the most part, successful people, exactly the type of people you would want doing this experiment. She does a good job throughout the podcast keeping the listeners on edge, for an example, when she stops for a commercial break she mentions a fight broke out after the commercial, which makes the listeners want to keep listening. Another way she kept the listeners engaged is by saying “we will continue into the shelter in the next episode”, making the listeners want to hear the next episode. I hope to bring the same type of energy into my research paper with my interviews to keep the reads interested.
